I saw this quote from Frank
Dick today, very much in concert with what I have been saying in this blog over
the past few months: “You can’t learn faster only by having
access to your own experience and knowledge,” insists Dick. “It’s a no-brainer.
You need access to the experience of everybody. But in our sport (Track &
Field), everyone is brought up to be an individual, and fight with everyone
else. In a team sport it’s not as difficult to get people to work together.
That’s a cultural shift that has to take place in athletics.” Frank is
the new Chairman of Scottish Athletics; he was the Chief Athletics Coach for
England in their golden days in the 1980’s. He has always been an inspiration
and a source knowledge and wisdom for me.
